Recently I was in Turnhout and visited many of the touristic things to do. The main attraction on the main square is the Sint Pieterskerk. I also went into the church and the stained glass windows and the pulpit are really worthwhile. Make sure you add some time to your visit for this experience.
According to the local tourist information site about the church:
"Anyone who thinks that St. Peter's Church is a church like any other will be disappointed. The exterior is remarkably austere, the interior is breathtaking. The showpiece is the pulpit from 1862. Once recovered, let the myths come to you.
endured iconoclasm
How old the oldest church in Turnhout is remains a mystery. But the result of centuries of work is simply beautiful. Especially the well-known interior attracts big eyes. There is no longer any trace of devastation during the iconoclasm. On the contrary. The pulpit, the high altar and sculptures and paintings shine with beauty. A rich church treasure is also preserved. Don't spread the word.
mosquito extinguishers
The pulpit, the stained glass windows, the organ and the altars, once seemed to go up in flames. The church tower seemed to burn. However, the seat of the fire turned out to be a strong swarm of mosquitoes in the sunshine. For example, the inhabitants of Turnhout were nicknamed 'mosquito extinguishers'. There are even more myths hanging around the church. Worth discovering!
