Between the years 855 and 858, that is, between Popes Leo IV and Benedict III, was the epoque when one woman was Pope.
Her name was Juana, but with the name John Angelicus, that born in Maintz was Pope, maybe Benedict III or Juan VIII for other fonts.
When she was Pope was she became pregnant and gave birth in a religious procession, taking advantage of the fact that there were many people. Some say that she was stoned to death by the town shortly after and others that she voluntarily retired with her son who later became Bishop of Ostia.
Is told for people that the chair sedia estercoriaria that has a whole in the middle, it isn't for defecate, that whenever a pope was elected, the newly elected pontiff was to sit in the chair, wearing nothing but what is nothing, under his papal robes. Then a young cardinal would come looking at or feeling the testicles of the newly elected Catholic leader. When he verified the presence of the corresponding genitalia, he exclaimed "Duos habet et benepending", that is: "It has two, and they hang very well!"
It said that until Pope Leo X (1513-1521), a unique method of "papal verification" was used.
