Urzadzony teren zielony znajduje sie tutaj od 1840. Obecny zieleniec zalozono w 1870 na terenie dawnego przedmiescia Piaski (obecnie teren ten uwazany jest za Rybaki, a nazwa Piaski zanika). Ulice Zielona wytyczono w II polowie XIX wieku, a obecna nazwe nadano w 1919 (Prusacy w 1915 nadali temu terenowi imie Ericha Ludendorffa i byla to jedna z ich ostatnich zmian przed opuszczeniem miasta). W XIX wieku park posiadal swobodna kompozycje, m.in. krete aleje posród drzew. W 1881 powstala tu, nieistniejaca obecnie, fontanna ufundowana przez ciesle Stübera. Funkcjonowal w tym czasie takze budynek gimnastyczny, obok którego stal pomnik Friedricha Ludwiga Jahna (1778–1852), twórcy systemu niemieckiej gimnastyki.
Duza czesc oryginalnego, dorodnego drzewostanu nie przetrwala mroznych zim w 1939 i 1940. Inne cenne gatunki zniszczyl ostrzal w 1945. Wyginely m.in.: klon pensylwanski, klek amerykanski, perelkowiec japonski i bozodrzew gruczolowaty. Przetrwala natomiast topola Simona.
14 maja 1945 zainaugurowano z przystanku przy ul. Zielonej (pólnocna czesc ogrodu) regularna komunikacje autobusem gazowym do Debca (ul. Swietej Trójcy). Gaz pozyskiwano ze zbiornika przy ul. Zielonej, a jego objetosc wystarczala tylko na kurs w jedna strone (do drugiego zbiornika).
19 grudnia 2008 skwer otrzymal (z inicjatywy dzialacza Towarzystwa Milosników Miasta Poznania, Adama Suwarta), imie Zbigniewa Zakrzewskiego, ekonomisty zwiazanego z Poznaniem. W tym samym czasie teren uporzadkowano i zbudowano oryginalna fontanne, przedstawiajaca zadbanego i dobrze odzywionego mieszkanca miasta (tzw. profesora), dziewczynke i psa, z niepokojem wyczekujacych deszczu, co bylo odpowiedzia na zagrozenia ekologiczne XXI wieku. Autorem rzezb byl Norbert Sarnecki (projektant pobliskiego Nie-pomnika). W 2010 urzadzenia fontanny zostaly uszkodzone (zalane) w wyniku przejscia przez Poznan fali powodziowej. Przerwa w uzytkowaniu obiektu trwala kilka miesiecy.
W bezposrednim sasiedztwie skweru znajduja sie istotne dla miasta miejsca: III Liceum Ogólnoksztalcace, Kupiec Poznanski i ul. Pólwiejska z pomnikiem Starego Marycha.
Zima fontanna jest nieczynna, ale teren ogródków otwarty

The arranged green area has been here since 1840. The present green area was established in 1870 in the former suburb of Piaski (now the area is considered Rybaki, and the name Piaski is fading away). Zielona streets were marked out in the second half of the 19th century, and the current name was given in 1919 (the Prussians in 1915 gave this area the name of Erich Ludendorff and it was one of their last changes before leaving the city). In the nineteenth century, the park had free compositions, incl. winding avenues among trees. In 1881 a fountain, which does not exist today, was erected here, funded by carpenters Stüber. At that time, there was also a gymnastic building, next to which stood a monument to Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778–1852), the creator of the German gymnastics system.
A large part of the original, plump tree stand did not survive the cold winters of 1939 and 1940. Other valuable species were destroyed by shelling in 1945. The following extinct were: Pennsylvania maple, American cotter, Japanese pearly and adenidae. On the other hand, Simon's poplar survived.
May 14, 1945 inaugurated from the stop at ul. Zielona (northern part of the garden) by regular gas bus transport to Debec (ul. Swietej Trójcy). The gas was obtained from the tank at ul. Zielona, ??and its volume was sufficient only for a one-way course (to the other reservoir).
On December 19, 2008, the square received the name of Zbigniew Zakrzewski, an economist associated with Poznan (on the initiative of Adam Suwart, an activist of the Society of Friends of the City of Poznan). At the same time, the area was tidied up and an original fountain was built, showing a well-groomed and well-fed city dweller (the so-called professor), a girl and a dog, anxiously waiting for rain, which was a response to the ecological threats of the 21st century. The author of the sculptures was Norbert Sarnecki (designer of the nearby Nie-monument). In 2010, the fountain equipment was damaged (flooded) as a result of a flood wave passing through Poznan. The break in the use of the facility lasted several months.
In the immediate vicinity of the square there are places important for the city: III Liceum Ogólnoksztalcace, Kupiec Poznanski and ul. Pólwiejska with the monument of Stary Marych.
