The Clydesdale Bank announced the opening of new premises in the town of Forfar in 1912 in the main shopping thoroughfare of Castle Street next to the town's Post Office. In 1916 it was announced that the bank would be moving southwards to premises at 67-75 Castle Street after the Post Office lost interest in the site that it had intended to move to. Old property on the site was demolished in 1919, and the new building was opened in 1921.
The bank remained a fixture in the town for nearly a century until closing in 2018. A branch of Specsavers the opticians then took over the site which is situated on the western side of the street, north of the town centre.
