Oorspronkelijk was dit beeld gemaakt voor het oude zwembad. In 2000 werd het verhuisd naar het nieuwe zwembad De Peppel en werd daarbij op de bijna twee meter hoge sokkel geplaatst.

Rien Goené is schilder én beeldhouwer. Hij werkt zowel figuratief als abstract. De Zwemmers is een zeer beweeglijk beeld. Goené heeft twee waterpolospelers afgebeeld waarbij het hem gelukt is de beweging en de dynamiek van het spel uit te beelden. De stijl van Goené is te herkennen aan de eenvoudige en hoekige beeldtaal, waarbij de lijnen toch vloeiend zijn. Hij laat overbodige details weg. Het beeld is na het gieten niet glad bewerkt, maar het brons laat juist de ruwe huid van het oorspronkelijke kleimodel zien.

Originally this statue was made for the old swimming pool. In 2000 it was moved to the new swimming pool De Peppel and was placed on the almost two meters high pedestal.

Rien Goené is a painter and sculptor. He works both figuratively and abstractly. The Swimmers is a very mobile image. Goené has depicted two water polo players in which he has succeeded in depicting the movement and dynamics of the game. Goené's style can be recognized by the simple and angular visual language, in which the lines are nevertheless fluid. He omits unnecessary details. The sculpture has not been smoothed after casting, but the bronze shows the rough skin of the original clay model.
