In de lockdown zijn autoshows even niet toegestaan. Ik vond toch een hele bijzondere verzameling auto’s langs de Oosteinderweg in Aalsmeer. Het bleek de collectie van de Race For Fun garage, een garage die specialiseert in bijzondere Porsches.

De Porsche 944 Cup is eigenlijk waar het allemaal mee begon. Vader en zoon Verkerk racen al jaren in deze klasse en wisten in de afgelopen jaren diverse eerste prijzen en kampioenschappen binnen te halen. Dat viel ook andere deelnemers op die hun auto’s vervolgens bij de heren lieten prepareren. Zo ontstond zes jaar geleden Race For Fun, een bedrijf waar alle ervaring die is opgedaan op het circuit wordt vertaald in preparatie en onderhoud van wedstrijdauto’s. Het bedrijf groeide snel en 2,5 jaar geleden verhuisde het bedrijf naar een groter pand van 330 m2.

Inmiddels worden er zo’n 15 auto’s uit de 944 cup geprepareerd en onderhouden en daarnaast zijn er diverse Porsche’s uit andere raceklassen die de weg naar Aalsmeer hebben weten te vinden. Zo zijn er nu diverse Caymans in onderhoud, wordt er een GT3 ondersteund en vinden we regelmatig een aantal 968’s in de werkplaats. Tijdens wedstrijden is het team van RFF op de circuits om de nodige ondersteuning te bieden, van de normale controles tot afstelling van dempers en veren. Desgewenst kan ook het transport naar het circuit verzorgen, of wie zo wil instappen, kan kiezen voor het ‘arrive and drive’ concept waarbij de racewagen geheel geprepareerd klaar staat op het circuit.

Alle opgedane race-ervaring van de afgelopen jaren komt ook ten goede aan particulieren die hun straat-Porsche graag door een professioneel team willen laten onderhouden. Zij kunnen terecht voor de meest uiteenlopende werkzaamheden, van apk tot een complete motorrevisie, de mannen draaien er hun hand niet voor om.
