This historical marker was placed to celebrate the famed alumnis of Oakland acity College, Melba Phillips. It is located across from the
Murrey Center on Lucretia St.

Mrs Phillips graduated from OCC in 1926 and went on to have a famed career as a nuclear physicist. She taught at UC Berkeley and helped develop the Oppenheimer-Phillips Process, well known in the nuclear physics world.
