"About the artwork
On 9 October 2015, the festive unveiling of The Lost Pearl took place in Het Park, a play element created by artist Madeleine Berkhemer. The playground is part of the renovation of Het Park, which started in 2011 based on the original park design by the company Zochers and the wishes of today's visitor. Berkhemer has inspired her design on Zochers' curvy lines, on animals that occur in the park and on the imagination of children. In the grass lies a life-size broken pearl necklace of 67 pearls. At one of the ends is a large freshwater mussel shell containing a play fountain. You can crawl through some pearls and the entire necklace is about 50 meters wide. The playground was an initiative of the former borough of Centrum, which has made a budget available. The project was made possible in part by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Suardus Ebbinge, chairman of the Center area committee, unveiled The Lost Pearl together with children and residents.
