Richard Arlen and Thelma Ernestine Stennett made their living as cotton farmers on the Staked Plains of West Texas -- a common occupation here. What is uncommon is their joint headstone, which features two compressed bales of finished cotton.

Acuff TX -- Funeral services for Arlen Stennett, 81, of Acuff, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at the Church of Christ in Idalou, Texas, with Vestal Blakely and David Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Idalou Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family will have a visitation on Monday, May 2, 2016, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Englunds in Slaton.
Arlen passed from this life Friday, April 29, 2016. Arlen was born March 4, 1935, in Lubbock, Texas to Bill and Bonnie Stennett. He was an only child and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952.
After high school he began working on the family farm and shortly after, married Ernestine Harkey on Oct. 25, 1952, in Portales, NM. They have been married 63 years.
Arlen was a collector of many things or as told by close family members; he was a connoisseur of junk. Arlen was raised on the family farm, and he lived there his entire life. In his younger years he was an avid deer hunter and his love for Christmas never faded through the years.
Arlen loved being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he was surrounded by family until his passing. Arlen was a member of the Church of Christ
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ernestine Stennett of Acuff; sons, Gary and wife, Betty Stennett of Tahoka, Cary and wife, Judy Stennett of Acuff; and a daughter, Kathy Jackson of Acuff; grandchildren, Stephanie McFadden and husband, Brandon, Bonnie Thompson, and husband, Kerry, Courtney Stennett, Ty Blackwell, Shannon Locke and husband, David, Sloan Jackson and wife, Caitlin; great-grandchildren, M'Kenna McFadden, Cameron McFadden, Corley Locke, Parker Locke, Ryder Thompson, Brooklyn Jackson and soon to be Davis Thompson who is due in July.
Arlen was preceded in death by a grandson, Clay Jackson on Jan. 13, 2000, and his parents. The Family suggest memorials to a charity of your preference."
