Smithsonian Art Inventory"
A Civil War soldier stands at parade rest, his proper left foot slightly forward. He holds the barrel of his rifle in front of him with both hands, the butt of which rests on the ground in front of his proper right foot. He has a moustache and wears a broad-brimmed hat and uniform. A bedroll is strapped across his chest and over his proper left shoulder. The sculpture is mounted upon a base with a peaked cornice containing a five-pointed star. The tiered base has a stepped bottom."
