The Village of Friendship Heights was established in 1914 as a Special Tax District within Chevy Chase. Near the center of the Village is Hubert Humphrey Friendship Park. The main feature of this urban park is a symmetrical fountain in the shape of a rounded cross outlined by a 1' high concrete wall. A tall jet of water rises from the center of the basin. Each of the rounded lobes has a smaller jet of water rising form its center.
