"In 1893 the Van den Boogaard family leased the farm "Staay" (located near the Maas). At the time, this farm was part of Landgoed Makken, which was owned by a baron from Brussels. The transfer of people across the Meuse was inextricably linked to the lease of this farm. This happened at the time with a ferry that initially without an engine, but crossed by means of the current of the river (vulture ferry). Six years later, in 1899, the Van den Boogaard family bought the farm and therefore also the ferry."
