"The Castle of D'Asprimont Lynden is located in Oud-Rekem. In 1921 this castle was given the function of a psychiatric hospital. It was known as the 'Reich Insane Asylum'. At that time, psychiatric patients were banned from society and spent the rest of their lives in institutions like this one. They no longer had any family or had severed all ties with them. Only men lived in the asylum in Oud-Rekem. The men who died there were buried in a cemetery located in the woods some distance from the asylum.

Between 1921 and 1981 about 1750 patients were buried here. This cemetery is now known as the Cemetery of the Insane in the 'Urbex scene' but the cemetery is freely accessible, located on a main road and still reasonably maintained. Nevertheless, the cemetery has a mysterious atmosphere. Probably due to the background story, but also the location in the forest, the corpses at the opening and the age of the cemetery contribute to this."
