The Nashua, Acton & Boston Railroad was begun in 1871 to connect the Concord Railroad with the Framingham & Lowell Railroad.

This bridge was built in Westford by the railroad in 1872, and was constructed entirely of huge granite blocks, without mortar. Trains were running by 1873.

The railroad was never profitable, and the line was abandoned in 1926. The tracks and ties have been removed, and the railbed is now a nature trail maintained by the Westford Conservation Trust.
