Descriptif

L'église Saint-Pierre, autrefois propriété de l'abbaye de Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, fut reconstruite en style néo-roman sur son site initial, en 1784. Seul, l'ancien choeur de style gothique tardif fut conservé. Situé dans un cimetière clôturé, l'édifice, bâti en briques, possède trois nefs et une forte tour carrée à cinq niveaux dont la hauteur totale avoisine les 45 mètres. Le clocher abrite trois cloches dont deux plus récentes (1957) ont remplacé celles que les Allemands avaient volées le 15 juin 1943. Parmi les pièces de mobilier intéressantes, on trouve la chaire de vérité (fin XVIe s.), en bois sculpté, qui présente les quatre évangélistes et un docteur de l'Eglise, une cuve baptismale de forme octogonale (1540) et un imposant chemin de croix (1852), oeuvre du peintre tournaisien Lecat.

Descriptif

The church dedicated to Saint-Pierre, formerly owned by the abbey of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, was rebuilt in neo-Romanesque style on its initial site, in 1784. Only the old late Gothic choir was preserved. Located in a fenced cemetery, the building, built in brick, has three naves and a strong square tower with five levels, the total height of which is around 45 meters. The bell tower houses three bells, two of which more recent (1957) replaced those that the Germans had stolen on June 15, 1943. Among the interesting pieces of furniture, we find the pulpit of truth (late 16th century), in carved wood, which presents the four evangelists and a doctor of the Church, an octagonal baptismal font (1540) and an imposing path. de croix (1852), work of the Tournaisian painter Lecat.
