Residents from Zelhem have taken the initiative to keep the memory of the railway visible.
From Zelhem there are cycling and walking routes along the route of the old railway line.
The route from Zelhem to Doetinchem is an asphalted cycle path that is used by students and for a visit to the weekly market in Doetinchem. At the initiative of the city council of Zelhem, the bicycle path has been provided with public lighting.
Zelhem was isolated in the Achterhoek for centuries.
The arrival of the railway was therefore of great importance to Zelhem.
In the early years, the new possibilities were used for travel and freight transport. The railway yard and the station building also need to be expanded quickly.
The railway was in use until May 28, 1972.
In 1977 the rails were removed and the railway line came to an end and is now the cycle path to Doetinchem.
