The sign says "The Liriodendron mansion was built in 1898 as a summer home away from the heat of the Kelly's Mount Vernon home. The mansion was named after the tulip poplar trees that shade the 200 acre grounds. The Kelly family lived in the mansion until the 19080. The property was sold to Harford County and the Liriodendron Foundation was formed to manage the park".
