This was the site of The Strathalbyn, the first hotel in the town. Built in 1840 the hotel burnt down in 1867. A new two storey hotel was built in 1868 and was called the Terminus. It was rebuilt at the tramway terminus to provide refreshments for passengers as it marked the end of the run for Hill & Co coaches from Adelaide and the end of the Horse Tramway from Port Elliot and Goolwa.
