A questioned work of the sculptor Aurelio Rodríguez Carretero, it is located inside a circular plinth, on a large stone pedestal, on the sides of which are represented, in reliefs made in bronze, allegories alluding to his most awarded works: Doloras, Humoradas y Pequeños Poems In the previous part, a medallion contains the legend: "Asturias a Campoamor". Another carved text reads: "The homeland never forgets those who exalt it. On the initiative of Asturians who reside in both continents, this monument is raised in Navia, his hometown, to the most profound poet of the 19th century. 19th of August of MCMXIII. He was born in Navia on September 25, 1817. He died in Madrid on February 12, 1901 ". It was financed with a collection led by Rafael Calzada and Antonio López Oliveros. The poet appears seated on a bench, in a candid and quite realistic expression.

"BIOGRAPHY
Ramón de Campoamor y Campoosorio was born in Navia, Asturias, on September 24, 1817. His father was a modest peasant and his mother was a rich landowner. At the age of nine he began his secondary studies in the town of Puerto de Vega. Later he studied philosophy in Santiago de Compostela and logic and mathematics in Madrid. At the age of eighteen he moved to Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) where he began studying Medicine, but left them shortly. At the age of twenty he published his first printed work, a comedy entitled "A generous woman" and his first verses "Tenderness and flowers."
He joined the moderate party and was appointed civil governor of the province of Castellón. He married Guillermina o'Gorman, a young lady from a wealthy Irish family living in Alicante; she is a very devout Catholic, from whose union there were no descendants. Between 1851 and 1854 he was Governor of Valencia and intervened with a seat in Congress. In 1861 he was appointed as a member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, occupying the E.
He died in Madrid on February 11, 1901.
