The Cine Teatro Orfeon was inaugurated on the 30th June 1938. It was huge. The original project included 6.000 seats but more realistically there is a document dated 1945 mentioning around 4.600 seats.
In 1947 it was renovated accordingly to a project of the USA architecture firm John Eberson & Drew Eberson and it reopened next here with 3,165 seats.
It closed before the 90's and stayed abandoned until a short lived project reopened it as a theater: in 1996 it was purchased by OCESA Presents and the Disney Corporation and fully renovated. Oddly it stayed active only for a year. It closed again in 1998 and so it stays until our days.
Notice on its Art Deco facade the old advertisements for Coke and Corona beer.
