Het wapen van Oude-Tonge werd op 24 juli 1816 bij besluit van de Hoge Raad van Adel aan de gemeente Oude-Tonge in gebruik bevestigd. Vanaf 1 januari 1966 tot 1 januari 2013 maakte Oude-Tonge deel uit van de gemeente Oostflakkee. Het wapen van Oude-Tonge is daardoor komen te vervallen. In het tweede kwartier van het wapen van Oostflakkee werd het wapen van Oude-Tonge opgenomen. Sinds 1 januari 2013 valt Oude-Tonge onder de gemeente Goeree-Overflakkee. In het wapen van Goeree-Overflakkee zijn geen elementen uit het wapen van Oude-Tonge overgenomen.
Het wapen is afgeleid van het wapen van de heerlijkheid Grijsoord, waarvan zowel Oude- als Nieuwe-Tonge deel uitmaakten. Dat wapen was horizontaal in drieën gedeeld: blauw, zilver en groen. Het wordt als wapen voor zowel Oude als Nieuwe Tonge vermeld door Smallegange in 1696, Van Alkemade in 1729 en Bakker in 1799.

The coat of arms of Oude-Tonge was confirmed to the municipality of Oude-Tonge on 24 July 1816 by decision of the High Council of Nobility. From January 1, 1966 to January 1, 2013, Oude-Tonge was part of the municipality of Oostflakkee. The coat of arms of Oude-Tonge has therefore lapsed. In the second quarter of the coat of arms of Oostflakkee, the coat of arms of Oude-Tonge was included. Since 1 January 2013, Oude-Tonge falls under the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. In the coat of arms of Goeree-Overflakkee no elements from the coat of arms of Oude-Tonge have been taken over.
The coat of arms is derived from the coat of arms of the seigniory of Groeioord, of which both Oude- and Nieuwe-Tonge were part. That weapon was divided horizontally into three: blue, silver and green. It is mentioned as a coat of arms for both Oude and Nieuwe Tonge by Smallegange in 1696, Van Alkemade in 1729 and Bakker in 1799.
