"Dan In Real Life" (2007) stars Steve Carell as the main character Dan Burns, a widower and father of three. During this revelation scene, Dan drives up to the fictitious "Book & Tackle" bookstore cafe, exits his car, and stands for a moment along a wooden railing to look across the East Passage of Narragansett Bay. He goes inside to buy a newspaper and look around. Marie, played by Juliette Binoche, enters the shop and is ignored by the clerk who is on a phone call. Marie mistakes Dan for an employee and asks for help selecting a book. They strike up a long conversation and then share a muffin and coffee snack at the small shack northeast of the building.

The exterior of the shop is actually the Jamestown and Newport Ferry building along with a pier and separate, enclosed shed clad with wood shingles at Conanicut Marina in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

Shelves of books can been seen through the windows in the opening shot of the scene, but the interior shots of the bookstore are not from that location. The ferry's ticket counter lobby is a single level, yet the bookstore interior has a set of steps immediately to the left of the counter near the entrance. The ferry's name is another element changed for the movie -- a "Nissimoluc Ferry Service" sign replaces "Jamestown and Newport Ferry" sign above the gangway between the parking lot and the dock.
