Knox Lane used to cross the stream next to the bridge on a ford but this has now been closed to traffic. The road leads towards the bridge and turns into a footpath which only carries pedestrians and cyclists. It forms part of a circular path around the town of Harrogate known as the Harrogate Rimgway.

The bridge was originally built in the 17th Century as a pack horse bridge and is a Historic England Grade II Listed Building and an Ancient Monument.

There also two history plaques at the bridge.

SPRUISTY BRIDGE
This 17th century listed bridge within the
Royal Forest of Knaresborouh, carried
packhorse traffic between Knaresborough
and Ripley, through Bilton, Knox and
Killinghall, across Oak Beck until the
development of other roads in the 18th
century. Flood sluices at different levels
show the changing rate of water flow. The
bridge keeper's house behind the high wall,
was demolished c.1900, only the sundial
and two impessive pillars surviving.

The footway of this ancient pack horse bridge was
relaid in H.M. Queen Elizabeth II Diamond
Jubilee year by Ringway Infrastucture Services,
assisted by volunteers from Bilton Conservation
Group and Knox Valley Residents' Association
with funds from:
