Biography

Cipriano Martínez Rücker ( Córdoba , December 20, 1861 - July 16, 1924), was a Spanish musician and composer.

As a composer, he is considered one of the most important in Spanish romanticism , along with the polyphonist Infantas and the Malaga-born Eduardo Ocón (1833-1901). As a theoretician, he founded the Professional Conservatory of Music , then Provincial Conservatory , of which he was director and professor of harmony and composition, as well as a member of the royal academies of Córdoba and Seville.

Martínez Rücker's work is impregnated with elements typical of Andalusian music, although it should not for this reason be considered as typically nationalist. It shares with that of Eduardo Lucena the simplicity and naturalness of melodism, far from all rhetoric or artifice, and harmonic processes that also come from the classical-romantic tradition, far removed from the new trends that are beginning to emerge in European music.
