The Seal Isak (1931-1955)
At Smyge, two schoolgirls found a seal pup in 1931. The girls sold the seal pup to the City of Trelleborg for SEK 50. - The seal was placed in the Stadsparks pond where she lived for 24 years.
One night, she got her name from the two Trelleborg boys Eric Mattsson and Nils Norglin, who put up a sign with the text "The Seal is named Isak".
Policeman Fredrik Waldemar Nielsson, who was a great animal lover, took on Isak and came every day at the same time with a package of herring under his arm. In the distance, Isak could see Fredrik Waldemar coming and then she sounded like a crying child.
Polis Nielsson swung elegantly over the net fence and cuddled for a while with the seal that got its long-awaited herring.
Fredrik's concern for Isak meant that she could live in the pond for 24 years.
After her death, the city bought a new seal pup, Isabella. She was more normal and died after six months.

This work of art was added in 2020 in collaboration between the Kockske Foundation, Trelleborg Municipality, the artist Helene Rönnberg, the VA group, JOCÅ-Teknik, Käglinge Cementgjuteri and the Old Trelleborg Association.
