Le ton est donné sur la place du fort de Matra où l'imposante tête de Persée ne passe pas inaperçue. Puis, après avoir emprunté le petit chemin qui y mène, on est accueilli sur le site archéologique par un Veilleur tout aussi colossal.
Direction le forum ensuite où des représentations d'Athéna et de Persée tenant la tête de Méduse, s'observent de part et d'autre de l'agora. Alors que le visage éprouvé d'Orphée revenant des enfers semble arbitrer leur face-à-face.
Un peu plus haut, dominant la scène, le site antique et la plaine d'Aleria, deux gigantesques David et Goliath jouent les sentinelles. Depuis près d'un mois maintenant, sept sculptures géantes, oeuvres de l'artiste Christophe Charbonnel, sont installées là.
Elles constituent l'un des points forts - et le plus visible - de l'exposition Mythologies, dont la commissaire est Valérie Marchi, du service valorisation du patrimoine de la collectivité de Corse.
Et même si on a l'impression qu'elles ont toujours été là et qu'elles rendent Aleria antica encore plus mythique, leur installation n'a pas été aussi simple qu'il n'y paraît.
"Les sculptures , réalisées en bronze ou en composite de fer, pèsent entre 250 et 300 kg chacune, détaille l'historienne de l'art. Un chariot manuscopique a été nécessaire pour les transporter. Leur implantation a été placée sous le contrôle de la direction régionale des affaires culturelles, car sur un tel site, il n'y a aucune place pour l'approximation."
Présent lors de ces opérations, Christophe Charbonnel était aussi ému que Valérie Marchi. C'était la première fois que ses oeuvres étaient accueillies dans un lieu autant chargé d'histoire. Artiste autodidacte, il a commencé sa carrière en modelant des personnages pour les studios Disney.
"Aujourd'hui, il s'est construit un univers peuplé de héros, de dieux et de demi-dieux. Des sculptures colossales qu'il expose dans des villes ou qui peuplent son jardin", ajoute Valérie Marchi.
Le site archéologique d'Aleria leur offre un écrin exceptionnel. Et bien qu'ils soient gigantesques, ces personnages semblent bien petits face à 8000 ans d'histoire. Eux, ils ne resteront pas aussi longtemps face à la mer, l'étang de Diana et les sommets montagneux.
Persée - dans ses deux représentations -, le Veilleur, Athéna, Orphée, David et Goliath ne seront sur place que jusqu'au 16 septembre.
Une exposition rare et émouvante à voir absolument. Une bonne occasion, en plus, d'aller découvrir ou redécouvrir la cité antique d'Aleria.

The archaeological site of Aleria offers them an exceptional setting. And although they are gigantic, these characters seem very small in front of 8000 years of history. They will not remain so long in front of the sea, the pond of Diana and the mountainous tops.
