An ancient stone font in St John in the Wilderness, Withycombe Raleigh. An inscription in the base of the font suggests it was made in the year 911 AD. The style of the font is much more modern, 15th century, so the date inscribed is dubious. It may be that it has been re-cut from a 'heavier' font that was that early.
The octagonal bowl is decorated with fleur-de-lys in a quaterfoil.
