The two-storied bluestone building with stucco quoins and surrounds to openings and two-storey front verandah was erected in 1883. It was built to serve shipping arriving at Semaphore, then the major port for Adelaide. It was from here that Customs officials would go to board incoming shipping before being allowed to unload their goods
