In Sri Lanka we had a rafting experience on the Kelani Ganga river. After the adventure we stayed at the hostel Rafter's Retreat in Sri Lanka. In the morning I walked to the riverside and snapped two of the most beautiful pictures I ever made. The river and it's landscape were so beautiful!
I found out online that the river was being managed by UNDP, UNICEF and IUCN: (

Recently, a program of the Sri Lankan government has been launched to manage, conserve and clean the 130 major rivers in Sri Lanka, of which the Kelani Ganga is one: (

From wikipedia:
"The Kelani River is a 145-kilometre-long (90 mi) river in Sri Lanka. Ranking as the fourth-longest river in the country, it stretches from the Sri Pada Mountain Range to Colombo. It flows through or borders the Sri Lankan districts of Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Gampaha and Colombo. The Kelani River also flows through the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, and provides 80% of its drinking water.
The Academy Award-winning The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge (and, supposedly, the submerged train cars that plunged into the river in the climactic scene)."
