[FIN] Turun Tuomiokirkon sivustoilla on useita kappeleita jotka on aitojen takana. Pyhän Yrjön vanha kappeli on niin ikään rajattu kirkkosalista ristikkoaidalla. Aidan portissa on ympyrän sisällä piispan hiippa ja aidan takana on keskiaikainen Autuaan Piispa Hemmingin harjakattoinen pyhäinjäännoslipas. Sen arvioidaan olevan 1500-luvulta. Kappelissa arvellaan olleen ennen Pyhän Yrjön alttari.
Pyhäinjäännöslipas on puusta valmistettu ja sen taidokkaat muodot herättävät kunnioitusta kuinka se on säilynyt niin hyvin. Vain muutamista kohdista huomaa että ne on entisöity hieman erivärisellä puulla.
Autuas Hemming (myös Hemmingus; n. 1290 – 21. toukokuuta 1366 Turku) toimi Turun piispana vuosina 1338–1366. Hän oli Suomen keskiajan mahtavimpia piispoja ja hallitsijoita.
Hemming oli Pyhän Birgitan läheinen ystävä. 1497 paavi Aleksanteri VI vahvisti Hemmingin kultin. Hemmingin reliikkien translaatiojuhla (pyhän henkilön jäännösten juhlallinen siirtäminen kirkkoon) ja autuaaksi julistamisjuhla vietettiin Turussa 1514. Hänet oli tarkoitus julistaa pyhimykseksi, mutta uskonpuhdistuksen vuoksi prosessi jäi kesken.
[EN] There are several chapels on the sides of Turku Cathedral that are behind the fences. The old chapel of St. George is also delimited from the church hall by a truss fence. Inside the gate of the fence is the medieval gable-roofed coffin of Blessed Bishop Hemming. It is estimated to be from the 15th century. The chapel is thought to have been the altar of St. George before.
The relic box is made of wood and its skillful shapes evoke respect for how well it has been preserved. Only a few points notice that they have been restored with a slightly different color of wood.
Blessed Hemming (also Hemmingus; c. 1290 - May 21, 1366 Turku) served as bishop of Turku from 1338–1366. He was one of the greatest bishops and rulers of Finland in the Middle Ages.
Hemming was a close friend of St. Birgita. 1497 Pope Alexander VI confirms the cult of Hemming. The transfer feast of the relics of Hemming (the solemn transfer of the remains of the holy person to the church) and the feast of the declaration of bliss were held in Turku in 1514. He was to be declared a saint, but due to the Reformation the process was interrupted.
