[FIN] Turussa korkealla Vartiovuoren päällä oleva vanha observatorio on ollut kaupungin maamerkkinä vuodesta 1819 asti. Tämän observatorion käyttöikä ei ollut kovinkaan pitkä, mutta siihen mahtuu yksi erikoinen tarina. Tähtitieteilijä ja geodeetti Henrik Johan Wahlbeck toimi tässä observatoriossa tutkijana. Hän oli sitä ennen kesällä 1822 tehnyt astemittauksia eri puolella Suomea kolmiomittauspisteiden määrittämiseksi ja valitettavasti oli loukannut päänsä mittausten yhteydessä. Epäillään että hän tuli tästä onnettomuudesta mielisairaaksi.
Vuoden 1822 lopulla Wahlbergin ollessa vasta 29-vuotias, teki hän itsemurhan tähtitornissa. On epäselvä ampuiko hän itsensä vai viilsi veitsellä kurkkunsa auki. Tekotavasta huolimatta on tähtitornin vahtimestari myöhemmin nähnyt observatoriohuoneessa suuren verilammikon sekä miehen ruumiin. Apua hakiessaan on sillä välin ruumis ja veri lattialta mysteerisesti hävinnyt. Vain raskas hengityksen ääni on jäänyt kummittelemaan. Tässä huoneessa on muutkin ihmiset tunteneet että jokin on siellä läsnä heidän kanssa. Ikään kuin katse seuraisi mitä ihmiset tekevät. Keskimmäisen kerroksen salissakin voi kuulla outoja askelten ääniä.
[EN] The old observatory on Turku Hill, high above Turku, has been a landmark of the city since 1819. The lifespan of this observatory was not very long, but it can hold one special story. Astronomer and surveyor Henrik Johan Wahlbeck worked as a researcher at this observatory. Prior to that, in the summer of 1822, he had taken degree measurements in various parts of Finland to determine the triangulation points and had unfortunately injured his head in connection with the measurements. It is suspected that he became mentally ill from this accident.
In late 1822, when Wahlberg was only 29 years old, he committed suicide in the observatory. It is unclear whether he shot himself or sliced his throat open with a knife. Despite the way he did it, the watch tower attendant later saw a large pool of blood in the observatory room as well as the man's body. In the meantime, when seeking help, the body and blood have mysteriously disappeared from the floor. Only the heavy sound of breathing has been haunted. Other people in this room have felt that something is present with them. It’s as if the gaze follows what people are doing. Even in the hall on the middle floor, you can hear strange footsteps.
