Histoire

Comté de Terrebonne. Diocèse de Montréal. Un curé y réside dans cette paroisse depuis 1851; les registres s’ouvrent en l’année 1853. Érection canonique: 8 mars 1862. Érection civile: 4 juin 1862. Le territoire de cette paroisse comprend une partie de la seigneurie de Lacorne. Pour description, voir M. et P. de Deschamps, pages 393, 398 et 1085. La municipalité de la paroisse de Sainte-Sophie a été érigée en vertu de l’Acte 8 Vict. chap. 40, le 1er juillet 1845. La municipalité du village de New-Glasgow a été érigée le 1er janvier 1864, en vertu de l’Acte 23 Vict. chap. 61. Le village est situé sur le parcours du chemin de fer Canadien National. La paroisse a été mise sous le patronage de sainte Sophie en l’honneur de Dame Sophie Raymond, épouse de l’honorable Joseph Masson, bienfaitrice de cette paroisse. La seigneurie de Lacorne, correspondant à la deuxième augmentation de la seigneurie de Terrebonne, a été concédée le 12 avril 1753 au Sieur Louis de Lacorne, marié à Élisabeth de Ramesay. Le village de New-Glasgow a été fondé par des Écossais qui venaient de New-Glasgow, en Écosse. Pop. 845.

The territory of this parish includes part of the seigneury of Lacorne. For description, see M. and P. de Deschamps, pages 393, 398 and 1085. The municipality of the parish of Sainte-Sophie was erected under Act 8 Vict. chap. 40, July 1, 1845. The village municipality of New-Glasgow was established on January 1, 1864, by Act 23 Vict. chap. 61. The village is located on the route of the Canadian National Railway. The parish was put under the patronage of Saint Sophie in honor of Dame Sophie Raymond, wife of the Honorable Joseph Masson, benefactress of this parish. The seigneury of Lacorne, corresponding to the second increase in the seigneury of Terrebonne, was granted on April 12, 1753 to Sieur Louis de Lacorne, married to Élisabeth de Ramesay. The village of New-Glasgow was founded by Scots who came from New-Glasgow, Scotland. Pop. 845.
