This is the second courthouse for the county. The first courthouse was in Tascosa.

County seat was moved to Vega in 1915. Architect O. G. Roquemore designed the new courthouse in the Classical Revival style. In 1967 they remodeled the courthouse removing the hipped roof. The courthouse entrance pillars is currently pretty much hidden by trees.
