Church History"Its first meeting place was known as "The Shack". In 1926, "The Shack" blew away but was salvaged in order to build the Tabernacle. As fate would have it, this building soon fell victim to yet another storm.
First Baptist Church then met for a time in a schoolhouse, a theater, and briefly with the Presbyterians. From 1926-1936, several events took place. The decision was first made to build a basement to be used as a church. That basement was in the northwest part of our present property. A two-room house was later moved directly behind the basement and used for Sunday school rooms and other church
purposes. Over the next several years, services were held outside as needed between the basement and the then parsonage.
In 1947, the cornerstone for the present sanctuary was laid and dedicated on May 16, 1948. The education building was dedicated on December 6, 1959.
In 1961, the church bought a house at 8th and Dressen for a parsonage.
In 1970, the sanctuary was remodeled. The colored glass windows as well as the handicap ramps were added.
On November 12, 2006, First Baptist Church of Spearman prayed and voted to follow in the steps of our church founders. Together, with God's help, we are taking a "Leap of Faith" to build a new, structurally sound, and more easily accessible building. This building will be a true work of God's love and guidance."
