"The Netherlands has six trauma helicopters. These trauma helicopters belong to the ANWB and are assigned to the 'Mobile Medical Team' (MMT) of the relevant region. The MMT is available 24 hours a day and not only has a trauma helicopter, but also a driving vehicle, so that it can still be deployed in bad weather conditions or technical defects in the helicopter.

The MMT consists of three crew members; the pilot (often former air force), the nurse and the doctor. The nurse also works in the ambulance or emergency department. The background of the doctor is trauma surgeon or anesthesiologist.

The MMT is an addition to the care provided by the ambulance. The trauma helicopter has the necessary tools on board, such as:

medical equipment: ventilator, drug pump and vital sign monitoring;
medication for, for example, pain relief and anesthesia;
material to perform life-saving actions on the street."
