Ein lebensgroßer Zentaur mit Keule in der linken und Trinkschale in der rechten, am Mund zum Trinken angesetzt. Der linke Huf ist angehoben. Über dem linken Arm hängt ein Tuch. Darunter fließt aus einer muschelförmigen Öffnung das Brunnenwasser. Die Statue ist aus weißem Stein gefertigt.
"Der Zentaurenbrunnen ist ein Brunnen am Bahnhofsplatz direkt vor dem Hauptbahnhof der oberbayerischen Stadt Bad Reichenhall. Gestiftet wurde der Brunnen von dem Reichenhaller Ehrenbürger Alfred Nathan und errichtet von Georg Albertshofer, der Entwurf stammt von German Bestelmeyer. Der Zentaurenbrunnen steht unter Denkmalschutz und ist unter der Nummer D-1-72-114-229 in die Bayerische Denkmalliste eingetragen.
Während der Kursaison 1909 (andere Quellen nennen das Erbauungsjahr 1910) wurde der Zentaurenbrunnen vor dem Bahnhofsgebäude feierlich enthüllt. Die Sagengestalt des Zentauren Cheiron, welcher Asklepios zum Arzt ausbildete, soll als Symbol für Heilung und Gesundung stehen und das Image des Ortes als Kurort verkörpern. Die Kurgäste sollten so schon bei der Ankunft am Bahnhof sinnbildlich mit der Heilkraft des Ortes vertraut gemacht werden. Von Seiten der Politiker gab es bei der Enthüllung ausschließlich wohlwollende Stimmen, da der Brunnen die Ausrichtung Bad Reichenhalls als Heilbad zusätzlich unterstrich.
Anders als das Prinzregenten-Denkmal im Kurgarten, das Nathan 1912 gestiftet hatte und das wegen seiner jüdischer Abstammung 1937 demontiert wurde, überdauerte der Zentaurenbrunnen die Zeit des Nationalsozialismus. Den Luftangriff auf Bad Reichenhall am 25. April 1945, bei dem Empfangsgebäude und weite Teile der Gleisanlagen des Hauptbahnhofes zerstört wurden und die nähere Umgebung in der Bahnhofstraße, Salzburger Straße und Frühlingstraße schwer in Mitleidenschaft gezogen wurden, hat der Zentaurenbrunnen ohne nennenswerte Schäden überstanden.
Im April 2016 wurde der Zentaurenbrunnen Ziel von Vandalismus, als eine unbekannte Person den linken Vorderfuß der Skulptur abbrach." (

The Centaur Fountain is a fountain on the station square directly in front of the main train station in the Upper Bavarian city of Bad Reichenhall. The fountain was donated by Reichenhall's honorary citizen Alfred Nathan and built by Georg Albertshofer, the design comes from German Bestelmeyer. The centaur fountain is a listed building and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-1-72-114-229.
During the course season of 1909 (other sources state that it was built in 1910) the centaur fountain in front of the station building was ceremoniously unveiled. The legendary figure of the centaur Cheiron, who trained Asklepios to be a doctor, is said to stand as a symbol of healing and recovery and to embody the image of the place as a health resort. As soon as they arrive at the train station, the spa guests should be familiarized with the healing powers of the place. On the part of the politicians, there were only benevolent voices at the unveiling, as the fountain also underlined the orientation of Bad Reichenhall as a spa.
Unlike the Prince Regent monument in the spa garden, which Nathan had donated in 1912 and which was dismantled in 1937 because of its Jewish descent, the centaur fountain survived the Nazi era. The centaur fountain survived the air raid on Bad Reichenhall on April 25, 1945, in which the station building and large parts of the railway tracks of the main train station were destroyed and the surrounding area in Bahnhofstrasse, Salzburger Strasse and Frühlingstrasse was badly affected.
In April 2016, the centaur well was the target of vandalism when an unknown person broke off the left forefoot of the sculpture.
