Mindesten ved findestedet for det første guldhorn fra jernalderen som 20. juli 1639 blev fundet af Kirsten Svends Datter ved Gallehus. Guldhornet blev afleveret til Kongen og som tak fik Kirsten Svends Datter et skørt.
Guldhornet vejede 3,1 kg og var 71 cm langt. Hornet er tolket som et drikkehorn eller et signalhorn og er dateret til omkring 400-tallet. Hornet var dekoreret med dyr, fisk, mennesker og stjernemotiver samt to slanger der slynger sig om hornet. Motiverne er bevaret på tegninger. Og det er heldigt, for guldhornet blev stjålet og smeltet om i 1802.
I 1734 blev der fundet endnu et guldhorn få meter fra det første. Også dette er er stjålet sammen med det første guldhorn.
På Nationalmuseet i København kan man se kopier af de to guldhorn.
The memorial stone at the site of the first golden horn from the Iron Age, which was found on 20 July 1639 by Kirsten Svend's Daughter at Gallehus. The golden horn was handed over to the King and as a thank you Kirsten Svend's daughter got a skirt.
The golden horn weighed 3.1 kg and was 71 cm long. The horn is interpreted as a drinking horn or a signal horn and is dated to around the fifth century. The horn was decorated with animals, fish, humans and star motifs as well as two snakes winding around the horn. The motifs are preserved on drawings. And that's lucky, because the golden horn was stolen and melted down in 1802.
In 1734 another golden horn was found a few meters from the first. Also this is is stolen along with the first gold horn.
At the National Museum in Copenhagen you can see copies of the two golden horns.
