[FR] Chançay est une commune du département de l'Indre-et-Loire, située entre les villes d'Amboise et de Tours, dans la vallée de la Brenne.
L'église Saint-Pierre fut construite en 1789, en remplacement de l'ancienne église du bourg qui fut détruite suite à un éboulement une trentaine d'années plus tôt. Cette nouvelle église fut établie dans une ancienne grange aux dîmes, par l'architecte tourangeau Luce.
Le clocher a été édifié vers 1825 sur la base d'une tour presque carrée, en ruine, ayant fait partie de l'ancien château seigneurial. La flèche du clocher est recouverte d'ardoises et est de forme octogonale. Le clocher abrite une cloche, dénommée Marguerite, fondue en 1869 par les établissements Bollée au Mans. Des travaux de réfection du clocher ont été réalisés en 1971-1972.
La face principale du clocher abrite une grande horloge ancienne.Le cadran est en métal. Les heures en chiffres romains sont peints en noir, mais aujourd'hui très fortement effacés. Les aiguilles sont en fer forgé, peintes en noir.
[EN] Chançay is a commune of the department of Indre-et-Loire, located between the cities of Amboise and Tours, in the valley of the Brenne.
The Saint-Pierre church was built in 1789, replacing the old church of the village which was destroyed by a landslide about thirty years earlier. This new church was established in a former tithe barn, by the Tourangeau architect Luce.
The bell tower was built around 1825 on the basis of an almost square tower, in ruins, which was part of the old seigniorial castle. The spire of the bell tower is covered with slates and is octagonal in shape. The bell tower houses a bell, called Marguerite, cast in 1869 by the Bollée company in Le Mans. The bell tower was renovated in 1971-1972.
The main face of the bell tower houses a large antique clock. The hours in Roman numerals are painted in black, but now very strongly faded. The hands are in wrought iron, painted in black.
