The Lamothe (aka La Mothe) Family Mausoleum can be found in the Lazayre Churchyard in Churchtown.

The mausoleum which was completed in 1845 and is in the Neo-Classical style. The land on which the vault stands on a plot which was purchased by Frederick John Dominique La Mothe who as an Advocate in Ramsey.

The vault is constructed from local rubble-stone with cement rendering. There is a low gabled attic course to the north, west and south elevations. To the east is a projecting pediment over a now-sealed opening surmounted by the family coat of arms carved in stone.

The vault is located on the southern boundary of the Churchyard and has commanding views to the north of the new church and the whole of the northern plain of the Island.

Inserted tablets on the are mounted on the north, south and west elevations which have epitaphs for Frederick John Dominique, his wife and another of other members of the family.

The La Mothe Family
'The Lamothe (formerly La Mothe) family descend from a French surgeon brought to the Isle of man from a captured privateer in the 1760’s. He married well and his descendants’ included lawyers, judges, doctors and a bishop. In 1844 one of his sons, Frederick John Dominique La Mothe, an advocate in Ramsey, bought a plot of ground adjoining Lezayre churchyard and on it built the mausoleum, which was complete by the time it was consecrated by the Bishop of Sodor and Man on 12th March 1845. Inscriptions on the external panels refer to La Mothe, his wife and other members of the family.' (visit link)

Frederick John Dominque Mothe the M.H.K and Advocate lived at The Old Cross in Ramsey which was later converted into a fine hotel and named 'The Old Swan'. (visit link)
