EN: The "Deutsche Post DHL Group", formerly "Deutsche Post AG", went out of the privatization of the postal authority, which had been prepared between 1989 and 1995. The authority was responsible for postal services (yellow post), banking services (blue post) and telecommunications (gray post). Further restructuring within the group and the IPO in November 2000 enabled the transition from the authority to a competitive company by 2007, which today employs around 550,000 people in Germany alone. In 2015, the "Deutsche Post AG" was renamed the "Deutsche Post DHL Group".
The acquisition of the international logistics company DHL and other logistics companies such as the Swiss company Danzas and the British company Exel opened up additional markets for Deutsche Post worldwide. Although the postal market in Germany has been liberalized since the beginning of 2008, competing companies have a hard time asserting themselves against the expertise and infrastructure of the German postal service.
Before the IPO in 2000, Deutsche Post was still fully owned by the federal government; 29% were issued in shares through the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). By 2007, the federal government had completely reduced its direct participation by selling these shares to KfW. Today around 20% are still in the hands of KfW.
Deutsche Post shares are traded on many national and international trading venues under ISIN DE0005552004, as can be found at isin.toolforge.org.
