Het bakkersvak zit Paul Berntsen in het bloed. Hij vormt al de vijfde generatie bakkers binnen de familie. Na zijn bakkersopleiding deed hij op uiteenlopende plaatsen ervaring op met het vak, om in 1992 een bakkerij in Didam over te nemen. Binnen de kortste keren werd hij uitgeroepen tot kampioen van Nederland en later tot (bijna) bakkerij van het jaar. Sindsdien noemt Berntsen zich met recht de Kampioensbakker. In 2004 verbouwden Paul en zijn vrouw Mirjam de zaak tot een supermoderne bakkerij met winkel, die zijn tijd nog steeds ver vooruit is. Pauls streven is dan ook nog altijd om de beste te zijn. Maar de titel ‘baas van het jaar’ die hij in 2006 in de wacht sleepte, is hem nog liever. Want uiteindelijk draait het allemaal om de mensen - en natuurlijk de liefde voor het vak.

The bakery trade is in Paul Berntsen's blood. He is already the fifth generation of bakers in the family. After his bakery training, he gained experience in the trade in various places, before taking over a bakery in Didam in 1992. In no time he was declared champion of the Netherlands and later (almost) bakery of the year. Since then, Berntsen rightly calls himself the Champion Baker. In 2004 Paul and his wife Mirjam converted the business into a super modern bakery with a shop, which is still far ahead of its time. Paul's aim is still to be the best. But the title of 'boss of the year' that he won in 2006 is even better for him. Because in the end it's all about the people - and of course the love for the profession.
