Op de Boulevard Evertsen in Vlissingen is op 26 maart 1995 een natuurstenen tegel aangebracht bij de zogenaamde Leeuwentrap. De tegel is ter ere van de op deze plaats geboren dichter Hans Verhagen. Op de tegel staat de tekst 'misschien geen verheven plek, maar hier begon het'. Dit is een regel uit het gedicht 'niet voor niets' van Hans Verhagen.

"Hans Pieter Verhagen (Vlissingen, 3 maart 1939 – Amsterdam, 10 april 2020) was een Nederlands dichter, journalist, kunstschilder en filmmaker. Verhagen debuteerde in 1961 met de in eigen beheer uitgegeven dichtbundel Anatomie van een Noorman. In 1963 volgde Rozen & Motoren, ditmaal bij een erkende uitgeverij. Andere bundels van hem zijn Sterren Cirkels Bellen en Duizenden Zonsondergangen. Hij maakte deel uit van de redactie van Gard Sivik, dat later De Nieuwe Stijl werd.

Hij werkte enige tijd voor de televisie, waar hij betrokken was bij destijds spraakmakende programma's als Hoepla en Het Gat van Nederland, beide uitgezonden door de VPRO. Vanaf de jaren tachtig stortte Verhagen zich volledig op de schilderkunst. Hij maakte in 2004 een comeback als dichter met de bundel Moeder is een rover, gevolgd door Draak (2006) en Zwarte gaten (2008). In 2003 verschenen zijn verzamelde gedichten in de bundel Eeuwige Vlam.

On the Boulevard Evertsen in Vlissingen, a natural stone tile was installed on 26 March 1995 at the so-called Leeuwentrap. The tile is in honor of the poet Hans Verhagen, who was born here. The tile reads 'maybe not a lofty place, but this is where it started'. This is a line from the poem 'not for nothing' by Hans Verhagen.

Hans Pieter Verhagen (Vlissingen, March 3, 1939 – Amsterdam, April 10, 2020) was a Dutch poet, journalist, painter and filmmaker. Verhagen made his debut in 1961 with the self-published collection of poems Anatomy of a Noorman. Rozen & Motoren followed in 1963. , this time by a recognized publishing house. Other collections of his are Sterren Cirkels Bellen and Thousands of Sunsets. He was part of the editorial board of Gard Sivik, which later became De Nieuwe Stijl.

He worked for television for some time, where he was involved in high-profile programs such as Hoepla and Het Gat van Nederland, both broadcast by the VPRO. From the 1980s, Verhagen devoted himself entirely to painting. He made a comeback as a poet in 2004 with the collection Mother is a rover, followed by Draak (2006) and Black Holes (2008). In 2003 his collected poems appeared in the collection Eternal Flame."
