A preliminary hearing for the man accused
of killing an 18-year-old Wesleyan College coed has been
set for June 12, a spokesman for the Washington County Court
Clerk's office said Friday.
Joel Joshua Benbow is charged in Washington County District
Court with first-degree murder in the slaying of Nicole Peevy,
whose partially nude body was found in a drainage pipe the day
after she was reported missing on April 15.
Benbow, the son of a Lutheran minister, was charged with
stabbing Peevy to death. Court documents indicate police
found blood stains and rope in his car and at his residence.
Peevy disappeared after leaving a note for her mother saying
she was going to meet Benbow, a former co-worker, at Tuxedo Park.
Benbow said hours before his arrest that he met Peevy at
the park to discuss personal problems, and that he left
her after talking about 30 minutes.
According to court records, Peevy was tied with rope and
shoe laces, wrapped in clear plastic and stabbed repeatedly.
