L'église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire est placée sous le vocable de Cyr de Tarse et de sa mère Julitte. En 304, Cyr était un enfant de 3 ou 4 ans quand il fut tué à Tarse (Cilicie, ancienne province romaine aujourd'hui située en Turquie) juste avant sa mère. Ceci fait de lui l'un des plus jeunes martyrs de la chrétienté à la suite des saints Innocents.
L'église est située sur l'emplacement d'une ancienne chapelle du Haut Moyen-Âge, puis d'une église romane du Xème siècle. L'église actuelle fut reconstruite au XVème siècle sous l'impulsion du roi de France Louis XI, dans un style gothique flamboyant.
L'église Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte de de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire fait l'objet d'une inscription au titre des monuments historiques par arrêté du 19 juillet 1926.

> La statue :
Le portail méridional est surmonté du blason de la famille Ruzé, du blason du Royaume de France, puis d'une niche avec une statue de la Vierge à l'enfant, au milieu du fronton triangulaire. Cette statue date du XVIème siècle. Elle est réalisée en pierre de tuffeau blanc de Touraine, et mesure environ 70 cm de hauteur.
La Vierge à l'Enfant, ou Madone, est un thème récurrent en peinture et en sculpture religieuses, renvoyant à la Nativité du Christ et à la maternité de la Vierge Marie.

> La Vierge Marie :
Marie est une femme juive de Judée, et la mère de Jésus de Nazareth. Marie est une figure essentielle au sein du christianisme (notamment pour les orthodoxes et les catholiques) ainsi que dans l'islam.
Les Évangiles de Matthieu et Luc rapportent l'Annonciation, c'est-à-dire l'annonce par l'ange Gabriel à Marie puis à Joseph à qui elle était fiancée, de la conception virginale de Jésus.
Les textes évoquent ensuite la Présentation au Temple pour accomplir le rite de rachat du premier-né. Syméon prophétise qu'elle connaîtra la douleur (Lc 2, 21-35). Plus tard se produit l'épisode de la disparition de Jésus à l'âge de douze ans (Lc 2, 41-51), lors de la montée annuelle au Temple de Jérusalem : alors que ses parents repartaient pour Nazareth, l'enfant était resté dans le Temple pour discuter avec les docteurs de la loi.
Marie apparaît à nouveau quand Jésus assiste aux Noces de Cana (Jn 2, 1-11), puis une fois où elle était à sa recherche alors qu'il enseignait (Mc 3, 31-35), enfin au moment de la crucifixion. Son fils la confie avant de mourir à son disciple préféré.

The church of Saint-Cyr and Saint-Julitte in Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire is dedicated to Cyr of Tarsus and his mother Julitte. In 304, Cyr was a child of 3 or 4 years old when he was killed in Tarsus (Cilicia, a former Roman province now located in Turkey) just before his mother. This makes him one of the youngest martyrs of Christianity after the Holy Innocents.
The church is located on the site of an ancient chapel from the High Middle Ages, then a Romanesque church from the 10th century. The present church was rebuilt in the 15th century under the impulse of the French king Louis XI, in a flamboyant gothic style.
The church of Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire was registered as a historical monument by order of July 19, 1926.
> The statue:
The southern portal is surmounted by the coat of arms of the Ruzé family, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of France, and a niche with a statue of the Virgin and child, in the middle of the triangular pediment. This statue dates from the 16th century. It is made of white tufa stone from Touraine, and is about 70 cm high.
The Virgin and Child, or Madonna, is a recurring theme in religious painting and sculpture, referring to the Nativity of Christ and the maternity of the Virgin Mary.
> The Virgin Mary:
Mary is a Jewish woman from Judea, and the mother of Jesus of Nazareth. Mary is an essential figure in Christianity (especially for the Orthodox and Catholics) as well as in Islam.
The Gospels of Matthew and Luke relate the Annunciation, that is to say the announcement by the angel Gabriel to Mary and then to Joseph to whom she was engaged, of the virginal conception of Jesus.
The texts then evoke the Presentation in the Temple to accomplish the rite of redemption of the first-born. Simeon prophesies that she will experience pain (Lk 2:21-35). Later, the episode of Jesus' disappearance at the age of twelve (Lk 2:41-51), during the annual ascent to the Temple in Jerusalem, occurs: while his parents were returning to Nazareth, the child had remained in the Temple to discuss with the doctors of the law.
Mary appears again when Jesus attends the wedding at Cana (Jn 2:1-11), then once when she was looking for him while he was teaching (Mk 3:31-35), and finally at the time of the crucifixion. His son entrusts her to his favorite disciple before he dies.
