"The construction of the Romanesque cathedral, of which nothing remains except the crypt and the footprint, began in 1015. The spire of the current building, Gothic style, was completed in 1439.
"Prodigy of the gigantic and delicate" in the words of Victor Hugo, its facade is a fantastic ornamental wealth. The arrow, 142 meters high, is a masterpiece of lightness and elegance. The cathedral was until the nineteenth century the highest building of all Christendom.
Outside, the facade is the largest picture book of the Middle Ages. Hundreds of sculptures that seem to stand out from the wall accentuate the effects of shadow and light. The color of the pink sandstone changes according to the time of day and the color of the sky. On summer evenings, the luminous scenography is a delight.
Inside, the slender nave inspires the recollection. The windows of the twelfth to the fourteenth century and the rose are a delight. The monumental organ has a remarkable buffet with automatons. The astronomical clock of the Renaissance period and whose mechanism dates from 1842 is a masterpiece in itself, whose parade of the Apostles can be admired every day at 12:30.
Accessible to people with reduced mobility on the north side."
