This small unassuming church made it onto a U.S. postage stamp designed in the fashion of a vintage post card offering ‘Greetings from New Mexico.’

In 2002, the U.S. Postal Service issued a full pane of 50 different stamp designs, each in the form of a vintage ‘Greetings from…’ post card from the 1930s and 1940s. All fifty states were represented on the pane with each individual stamp depicting attractions found in each state. The ‘Greetings from New Mexico’ stamp featured the big house at Taos Pueblo against a backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and an adobe church building typical of those found in New Mexico.
I’m not sure why this particular church was chosen. The official USPS press release described it as a church in Santa Fe. The actual church is located in the small village of Chamisal, about 50 miles from Santa Fe, along the ‘high road’ to Taos.
