"The Newcastle Borough Mid-week Bowling League is the first mixed crown green bowling league in North Staffordshire.
The Newcastle League was formed in 1984 for clubs from the Newcastle Under Lyme area. The first season consisted of 10 teams and since that time the league has grown to incorporate teams from Stoke on Trent and South Cheshire. The 2014 season will consist of 33 teams split into 3 divisions of 11.
The league also has 4 cup competitions consisting of:
The Burgess Cup: The main competition of the Newcastle League open to all teams in the league on a handicap basis. Handicaps ranging from 0-20 and all matches will be played on the same night
The Derek Kelsall Trophy: Open to Division 1 teams and now played on a neutral green
The Jim Capewell Cup: Open to Division 2 teams and now played on a neutral green
The Jane Berrisford Memorial Trophy: Open to Division 3 teams and now played on a neutral green
The league also has the end of season Champion of Champions for each division. The Champion of Champions is a single competition with a maximum of 2 players from each team that can enter.
The league is a affiliated to The North Staffordshire Parks Bowling Association and play under British Crown Green Bowling Rules.
