Moore Haven Swing Bridge - Moore Haven, Florida, USA - Moving Bridges on Waymarking.com

Located in Moore Haven, just south of the Moore Haven locks on the Cross-State Canal of the Okeechobee Intracoastal Waterway, and north of U.S. Highway 27, is a swing type railroad bridge. This pony/through plate girder bridge crosses over the Caloosahatchee Canal. It is used by the South Central Florida Express (SCXF), the South Central Florida Railroad (SCFE) and the U.S. Sugar Corporation (USSC).

It is an active bridge open to traffic. When not in use it is left open so that waterway traffic can freely utilize the Intracoastal Waterway. When the bridge is to be utilized a warning horn sounds and any approaching train must stop and an engineer must exit the train and walk to a enclosed control panel to close the bridge. A green light indicates that the train may proceed across. After crossing the same procedure must be completed in reverse to open the bridge for waterway traffic. A 200' (approximate) concrete trestle bridge is located on the east side of the swing bridge.
