This plaque beside the front door of what is now the LaCoste City Hall tells how the local bank and the city government have been working closely with the residents of the town of LaCoste. The building that is now the City Hall started out as the local bank building for the LaCoste National Bank. The bank worked with the farmers, ranchers and the town folks through decades of good times and hard times over the generations. There was good synergy between the town, the city government and the bank. The bank grew and moved to a larger building nearby. This former bank building then became the City Hall, which is in a very visually prominent location in the center of the town. Both the city government and the police department use this City Hall facility.
The Medina County Historical Commission has placed a plaque next to the front door of the City Hall building to commemorate the value and benefit gained form both the LaCoste National Bank and the LaCoste City Hall.
The LaCoste National Bank was bought by the Community National Bank of Hondo but is still servicing the town of LaCoste as the Community National Bank.
The plaque by the front door of the City Hall reads as follows:
"LaCoste City Hall LaCoste National Bank
The LaCoste City Hall was built in 1912 as the LaCoste National Bank Building. In 1974 the bank moved from this original location to the new bank building across the street. The original structure was sold to the City of Lacoste and has continued to serve the community as the City Hall and Police Station.
The LaCoste National Bank was founded in March of 1912 with a capital stock investment of $25,000. The original staff was made up of: Joseph Conrad, President; Emil Schmidt, Bice President: and H.C. Heilig, Cashier. By 1916 the Bank's total assets exceeded $250,000. The Bank remained solvent through the years due to conservative banking practices and the support of the local community. The bank provided structure to the explosive economy of a bustling railroad community and through the years of drought and recession the bank aided farmers, ranchers, rail men, and families with the kindness and understanding that only a small town bank can provide. The LaCoste National Bank was purchased in 2010 by the Community National Bank, Hondo.
