One of the most interesting works in Ferrol by the architect Rodolfo Ucha is the modernist building of the Ferrolano Casino, built in 1925, facing Real and Dolores streets. Using reinforced concrete for the first time in Ferrol, the Vigo architect built a building with Noucentista decoration, organized around a central courtyard. It has three floors with balustraded windows and balconies and an elegant finishing dome. Its remarkable and decorated interior also stands out: the party room, the dining room and the interior patio.
Of great interest is the Conversation Room on the ground floor of the Casino, a meeting space whose ceiling and walls are decorated with symbolic modernist wall paintings by Felipe Bello Piñeiro, unique of their kind in Galicia, made in various stages, including years 1925 and 1936. This wall decoration is a tribute to the natural landscape of San Andrés de Teixido.
It is a unique modernist decorative ensemble, within a pantheistic conception of the author, who recreates in his work the Galician landscape and its plant species. The ceiling appears covered with a vegetal decoration, with a predominance of green, ocher and gold tones, which alternate caissons decorated with drawings of Celtic interlocks and other symbols along with representations of flowers, leaves and fruits of emblematic native species of Galicia such as gorse, the pine, the horse and the chestnut.
